Scope of Work:

The Heavy Equipment Mechanic analyzes malfunctions and repairs, rebuilds and maintains power equipment, such as cranes, power shovels, scrapers, paving machines, motor graders, trench-digging machines, conveyors, bulldozers, dredges, pumps, compressors, and pneumatic tools at MCAS Beaufort.

Responsibilities:

  • Operates and inspects machines or equipment to diagnose defects.
  • Dismantles and reassembles equipment, using hoists and hand tools.
  • Examines parts for damage or excessive wear, using micrometers and gauges.
  • Replaces defective engines and subassemblies, such as transmissions, and tests overhauled equipment to insure operating efficiency.Β 
  • The mechanic welds broken parts and structural members.
  • Engages in cleaning parts and assisting with assembly and disassembly of equipment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Minimum of five to seven (5-7) years of related experience and/or formal vocational/technical training.
  • Each complete year of accredited college education in a related field may be substituted for the equivalent number of years of required experience.Β 
  • Must possess the ability to work in a team or alone and be able to change jobs on short notice.Β 
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Must have knowledge of worksite safety, occupational hazards, and standard safety practices.
  • Physically fit to bend, stoop, and lift in awkward positions.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. Β 
  • Duties will require frequent periods of bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, and reaching above shoulder level, and kneeling. Β Occasionally require periods of crawling and climbing. Β 
  • Must be able to perform duties under adverse weather conditions (extreme cold / heat, etc.). Β Β 
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license to operate a company vehicle. Β Β 
  • Must have a safe driving record, as defined by Company policy, to operate a company vehicle. Β 
  • Must be able to successfully complete a drug/alcohol test, criminal record check, and motor vehicle check.Β
