Job Responsibilities

With our Agency's mission to support the recovery of people with mental illnesses, we provide a complete array of medical and support services for children, adults, and families throughout South Carolina.Β

  • Our office is located at the Polly Best Center, 916 Reynolds Road, Barnwell, SC 29812.
  • This position will primarily deliver services in a School Setting in both Aiken and Barnwell Countys.
Job PurposeΒ 
  • Under limited supervision, provides an array of behavioral treatment services for patients (adult, children, and families) at ABMHC.
Job FunctionsΒ 
  • Provides 820 patient care hours annually.
  • Ensures patients are seen in accordance with their needs.
  • Completes clinical documentation using collaborative documentation.
  • Ensures patient functionality is measured by the DLA-20.
  • Participates in clinical supervision, treatment team meetings, pursues professional development, and demonstrates effective use of social and interpersonal knowledge and skills.Β 
  • Reviews caseload weekly for timely discharges, engagement, transition, and follow-up.
  • Completes documentation according to QA/SCDMH standards, complies with Corporate Compliance policy and Risk Management plan, and ensures timely completion of prior authorizations.
  • Performs other duties as needed.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

State Minimum Requirements:

  • A Masters’ degree in guidance, counseling, or the social sciences. Β 
  • Licensed or working toward licensure in South Carolina.Β 
  • Must qualify for credentialing and privileging as a Mental Health Professional in accordance with Quality Assurance standards.

Preferred Qualifications

Agency (Facility) Preferences:

  • One (1) year of post-graduate experience providing counseling/treatment.Β 
  • Licensed in SC or able to obtain licensure within six months.
  • Practical therapeutic knowledge of principles, methods and counseling practices and procedures for the diagnosis and treatment of behavioral and mental disorders.Β 
  • Ability to listen and understand and communicate information and ideas.Β 
  • Knowledge of psychopathology, family dynamics, family and group psychotherapy.Β 
  • Ability to establish effective relationships.Β 
  • Employee will be provided routine scheduled supervision by supervisor and participate in monthly consultation groups.
  • Additional supervision provided by Psychiatrist during staff meetings.
  • Employee is subject to SCDMH/ABMHC policies/procedures.
  • Ability to present clear and comprehensive oral and written reports.Β 
  • Ability to lift 5 pounds.
  • Operate a state vehicle (as applicable to position).
  • This position is considered essential and may be called back during crises/disasters/emergencies.
  • Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus.Β
