Product Materials Compliance Engineer

Dodge Industrial, Inc.

This is a Full-time position in Greenville, SC posted June 23, 2022.

DESCRIPTION:

Dodge Industrial Inc. is seeking a Product Materials Compliance Engineer to develop and implement the Product Materials Compliance strategy for the Dodge business. While this position reports to the Standards and Certification Manager, it is intended to be a cross-departmental position.

You will be working with all levels of the business to ensure our products comply with worldwide material regulations and that Dodge can support any claims of compliance. You will be responsible for the collection, organization, management, and analysis of the product materials data needed for the business. You will be interfacing with external service providers to ensure they are provided with the information they need in the format they need it.

In this position, you will perform a range of duties, including evaluating current product material compliance regulations, reviewing company processes, and working with interdepartmental teams to develop the product materials strategy. The successful candidate will be an excellent communicator, with in-depth knowledge of industry and regulatory requirements.

Essential Functions of the Job

  • Coordinate with department managers to review all product material compliance requirements
  • Perform periodic audits on company procedures and processes
  • Coordinate with the external service provider and IT to parse product material information accordingly
  • Improve, manage, and assure the quality of the compliance system database’s contents
  • Review and approve new functionalities to ensure compliance requirements and user needs are met
  • Assist business unit in generating compliance documents needed for Circular Economy, EcoDesign, EPR, and various Waste Directives
  • Develop appropriate dashboards and reports to ensure the business is informed on all material compliance related activities
  • Research, understand, and anticipate new regulatory requirements
  • Provide ongoing necessary training to internal stakeholders and suppliers to ensure Dodge material compliance requirements are understood at the appropriate depth

Product and Materials Compliance Analysis

  • Evaluate the presence of regulated and restricted substances in components, articles, and products.
  • Calculate concentration of substances in accordance with regulatory thresholds
  • Perform where-used analysis, grading, analyze Bill of Materials, and determine the applicability and scope of regulations in products
  • Prepare product compliance reports, and coordinate with Engineering and Supply Chain on any identified affected components, suppliers, and products
  • Collaborate with Product Management, Sales, Supply Chain, Engineering, and Logistics to properly classify parts and assemblies import and export shipment needs for EPR and Waste Directives
  • Support other teams with regards to product information, including product specifications, RoHS certificates, and other applicable documentation for product registration in different materials compliance databases
  • Design and monitor control systems to deal with violations of legal rules and internal policies

Customer Compliance Communication

  • Manage both internal and external customer requests which includes preparation and provision of compliance certificates for REACH, RoHS, TSCA, CA Prop 65, and other substance-based regulations
  • Provide technical and regulatory support for requests of information
  • Assess which products have registration obligations in accordance with the regulatory standards and requirements
  • Coordinate with Legal on standard regulatory templates, and other regulatory documents as well as any uncertainties on customer-specific requirements
  • Act as point of contact for complex product analysis requests

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical, Metallurgical, or Materials Engineering
  • At least 5 years’ experience in the regulatory and environmental compliance field
  • At least 1-year experience in leading small, informal teams or workgroups
  • Knowledge of environmental and material compliance regulations such as TSCA, CA Prop 65, REACH, RoHS, and other laws
  • Demonstrated systems and process knowledge with the ability to openly consider alternatives
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to relay technical concepts and ideas to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience working with several levels within an organization, from frontline up to senior management
  • Attention to detail with a strong sense of ownership and responsibility
  • A team player, with a positive attitude
  • Must be currently authorized to work for Dodge Industrial Inc. in the US
