Purpose of Job

We are seeking a hardworking and dedicated SOX Advisor.

Hybrid schedules available for our Charlotte, NC, Plano, TX and San Antonio, TX offices.

The Internal Controls Financial Reporting (ICFR) Advisor over Technology guides and facilitates cross-functional teams in planning and executing framework including across USAA Insurance, Banking, Investing and Real Estate lines of businesses and functional areas. Applies advanced functional knowledge and forward-thinking to capture data, assess risks and makes recommendations to tackle current and long-term matters. Focus of responsibilities will be on the technology aspects the ICFR program including IT general controls (ITGCs) and application controls.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assists with the following initiatives on behalf of Internal Controls Financial Reporting Project Management Office initiatives which may include: Oversight and mapping of business processes to significant accounts, coordinate and/or facilitate execution of walkthrough schedule/sessions, conducts re-testing activities, supports process owner attestation process, assists with documenting evaluation results of final ICFR effectiveness decisions.

  • Assists in the coordination efforts and facilitation sessions of the annual ICFR walkthrough activities; obtains/develops documentation of walkthroughs.

  • Supports ICFR Project Management Office in counseling USAA management over ICFR efficiency and standard methodologies through walkthrough activities and ICFR monthly meetings advancing concerns to ICFR PMO management.

  • Develops presentation materials supporting presentations to executives and partners.

  • Identifies and handles existing and emerging risks that stem from business activities and the job role.

  • Ensures risks associated with business activities are optimally identified, measured, and controlled.

  • Follows written risk and compliance policies, standards, and procedures for business activities.

  • Leads the following initiatives on behalf of ICFR Program Management Office (PMO) supportive of ICFR related initiatives which may include: coordinating and mapping business processes to significant accounts, coordinates and/or facilitates execution of walkthrough schedule/sessions, conducts re-testing activities, supports process owner attestation process, assists with documenting evaluation results for final ICFR effectiveness decisions.

  • Coordinates efforts and facilitation sessions of the annual ICFR walkthrough activities; acquires/develops documentation in support of walkthroughs.

  • Supports ICFR PMO in advising USAA management over ICFR efficiency and standard methodologies through walkthrough activities and ICFR monthly meetings, raising concerns to ICFR PMO management.

  • Assists in the development of presentation materials supporting ICFR Steering Group (ISG), ICFR touchpoint meetings, and other ICFR communications.

  • Partners and coordinates with BCM control partners to identify and evaluate ICFR controls and issues, documents results of overall ICFR control tests, and conducts root cause analysis in accordance with ICFR Program methodologies.

  • Proactivity finds opportunities to improve and strengthen the ICFR control environment; provides counsel and recommendations to BCM partners in the execution of ICFR activities and assists with ICFR training activities.

  • Serves as a resource to less experienced team members and BCM community to advise on completing ICFR Program deliverables.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, Risk Management or a related field; OR 4 years of related experience (in addition to the minimum years of experience required) may be substituted in lieu of degree.

  • Minimum 4 years’ experience in Internal Control Financial Reporting (ICFR), SOX, financial accounting and controls and/or auditing work experience OR at least 2 years of ICFR experience at a Big Four accounting firm.

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience developing and delivering results in a sophisticated ICFR matrix environment.

  • Proven knowledge in driving adoption of ICFR and collaborating cross-functional teams in planning and carrying out complex situations.

  • Experience finding opportunities and proposing ideas for improvement within ICFR controls.

  • Knowledge of banking, insurance, or investment systems processes, laws and regulations.

  • Strong understanding of accounting principles with ability to apply during internal reviews and controls.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.

  • Experience optimally communicating to various customers and business partners ICFR results and impacts.

Preferred Experience:

  • CPA, CISA, CISSP or CIA designation

  • SOX or ICFR, IT audit, risk & controls experience at a Big Four public accounting firm or public company

  • Experience with IT general controls or business application controls

Compensation:

USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market position. The salary range for this position is: $72,900.00-$131,400.00.

Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance or at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.

*Geographical Differential: Geographic pay differential is additional pay provided to eligible employees working in locations where market pay levels are above the national average.

Shift premium will be addressed on an individual basis for applicable roles that are consistently scheduled for non-core hours.
