Job Summary:

As a CNC Route Controller, you will be an essential member of the manufacturing team, contributing to the success of our operations. We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented leader who will be responsible for overseeing a team of route operators and managing a production backlog. Primary duties include coordinating and optimizing the routing process, Batching/nesting/tool pathing jobs, ordering materials, tracking inventory, maintaining CNC equipment, collaborating with multiple departments, and ensuring efficient and high-quality production.

Responsibilities:

  • Leadership, Management, and Accountability
    • Set a high standard for a commitment to excellence through your own work and conduct.
    • Align department goals with the company's overall vision and objectives.
    • Oversee all paint projects from initiation to completion, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and to SouthWood standards.
    • Efficiently allocate resources, including materials, equipment, and manpower, to maximize productivity and minimize waste.
    • Define and track key performance metrics for the sign painting department, regularly reviewing progress, and making necessary adjustments.
    • Hold team members accountable for meeting their individual and team goals, providing feedback, and coaching as needed.
    • Take ownership of any issues or challenges that arise in the paint department, addressing them promptly and effectively.
  • CNC Route Operation:
    • Set up and prepare the CNC router for production, ensuring the proper loading of materials and tool configuration.
    • Efficiently nest materials for cutting and create accurate tool paths to optimize material usage and minimize waste.
    • Prepare and output files to CNC routers, ensuring precision and accuracy in the fabrication process.
    • Continuously evaluate and improve the CNC routing processes, identifying areas for optimization, efficiency gains, and cost savings.
  • Quality Assurance
    • Perform regular quality checks on finished sign components.
    • Ensure that all manufactured products meet SouthWood's quality and methodical standards.
  • Material and Tool Management
    • Conduct regular inventory counts to prevent shortages.
    • Coordinate with purchasing team to maintain a standard supply of materials and tools required for production.
  • Maintenance and Troubleshooting
    • Conduct routine maintenance on CNC equipment to prevent breakdowns and minimize downtime.
    • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues that may arise during the CNC routing process, seeking assistance from technical support when needed.
  • Safety and Compliance
    • Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines while operating the CNC router and handling materials and tools.
    • Promote and maintain a safe and organized work environment.
  • Collaboration and Communication
    • Work with Production Manager and follow production schedules to prioritize tasks ensuring timely completion, adherence to quality standards, and meeting production targets.
    • Collaborating with various departments and department leads to ensure smooth workflow and efficiency.
    • Participate in lead meetings to discuss production status, challenges, and improvements.
    • Maintain clear and effective communication across all levels of the organization through emails, meetings, and other communication channels.
    • Provide guidance, mentorship, and support to route operators, fostering a positive and collaborative work environment.
  • Record Keeping
    • Maintain detailed records of production runs, material usage, production times, and any encountered issues.

Qualifications and Skills:

- High school diploma or equivalent; technical certifications or relevant vocational training is a plus.

- Proven experience in CNC routing or similar computer-controlled machinery.

- Strong leadership and supervisory skills, with the ability to motivate and guide a team effectively.

- Proficiency in CAD/CAM software and CNC programming.

- Familiarity with inventory management and tracking systems.

- Excellent organizational and time management skills to handle multiple projects simultaneously.

- Ability to work collaboratively across departments to achieve production goals.

- Strong attention to detail and dedication to maintaining quality standards.

- Safety-conscious with a commitment to maintaining a safe work environment.
