Β When first on the scene, this position will operate as the Incident Commander unless someone of higher authority arrives.
Β
2. Β Equipment maintenance – This position will inspect, maintain, test, clean and repair/arrange for repair of all fire apparatus, equipment, and gear to ensure proper operation, certification, fit, readiness and cleanliness for instant use. Β
No two calls are the same. Β  The challenge is dealing with all of the inherent dangers of fighting fire, including potential chemicals, physical elements, and distraught citizens. Β The reverse is also a problem – getting complacent into thinking all calls are routine calls, and then not being prepared for a true emergency.
