Job Title: Heavy Equipment Mechanic

Job Description:

We are currently seeking a highly skilled and experienced Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join our team. As a Heavy Equipment Mechanic, you will play a crucial role in analyzing malfunctions, performing repairs, and ensuring the optimal functionality of various power equipment, including cranes, bulldozers, forklifts, and other heavy machinery. Your expertise will contribute to the success of our maintenance operations and support field-level maintenance on a diverse range of equipment.

Responsibilities:

  • Analyze malfunctions and perform necessary repairs on a variety of heavy equipment.
  • Rebuild and maintain power equipment such as cranes, bulldozers, and conveyors.
  • Operate and inspect machines to diagnose defects and ensure proper functionality.
  • Dismantle and reassemble equipment using hoists and hand tools.
  • Examine parts for damage or wear using micrometers and gauges.
  • Replace defective engines and subassemblies, testing overhauled equipment for operating efficiency.
  • Weld broken parts and structural members.
  • Assist with the assembly and disassembly of equipment.
  • Perform field-level automotive maintenance on material handling equipment, including military and commercial forklifts, cranes, bulldozers, tractors, earth movers, and mine sweepers.
  • Perform field-level maintenance on U.S. military automotive equipment.
  • Conduct technical inspections, diagnostics, parts identification, and requisition, adhering to technical specifications and repair times.
  • Perform A/C repair and service on a wide range of automotive and material-handling equipment.
  • Update maintenance records and documentation in compliance with government regulations and local policies.
  • Properly use, store, account for, and dispose of hazardous materials and waste.
  • Handle the movement of material and assets with forklifts and dollies.
  • Comply with company and government-specified safety policies and procedures.
  • Comply with all established environmental regulations, methods, quality standards, and time schedules applicable to the position.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • U.S. Citizen.
  • At least 8 years of directly related professional experience.
  • Valid State-issued Driver's License.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain local base access and Common Access Card (CAC) requirements.
  • Certificate of training from a vocational school or other recognized source with a major study in automotive maintenance or a related field.
  • In lieu of formal coursework, a combination of college credits, on-the-job training, other formalized training, or ASE certifications may be considered.

Preferred Qualifications/Skills:

  • Expertise in military equipment.
  • EPA certification in the Refrigerant Recovery and Recycling Program (Section 609 of the Clean Air Act).
  • Strong background in automotive maintenance.
  • Leadership and time management skills.
  • Written and oral communication skills.
  • Planning skills.
  • Computer literacy.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to stand for 2 to 3 hours per day.
  • Must be able to walk for 4 to 5 hours per day.
  • Must be able to lift up to 35 lbs. - 50 lbs. periodically.
  • Must be able to squat, kneel, bend, reach, and climb periodically.
  • Must be able to work outside and inside in non-climate-controlled environments.
