Burr & Forman LLP has an immediate opening in our Columbia, SC, Atlanta, GA, Birmingham, AL, or Nashville, TN office for a full-time Information Governance Operations Manager.  This position will be  responsible for overseeing the operational aspects of the Information Governance Program, including file management (physical and electronic), matter mobility (file transfers), ethical walls, data access requests, legal holds, preservation orders, data remediation, share drive management, case room management, and retention and disposition in compliance with firm policies.  With a one-firm culture across our 20 offices, Burr & Forman is committed to our clients, our colleagues, and our communities. KEY CONTRIBUTIONS

Operational & Organizational Management

  • Develop goals and objectives for IG operations in conjunction with strategic planning initiatives, including developing IG-specific educational and training programs for attorneys and staff and developing and managing metrics used to evaluate the overall performance of IG operations.
  • Collaborate with the Information Governance Council to develop and implement policies, standards, processes, and procedures related to IG operations.
  • Ensure the firm’s IG Program complies with applicable regulatory rules and laws regarding the management of both client and business information and identify areas of improvement to promote operational excellence.

Matter Mobility

  • Manage the IG matter mobility program.
  • Communicate with incoming and departing attorneys, clients, and outside counsel regarding the matter mobility process.
  • Analyze incoming ESI related to matter mobility, including confirmation of receipt, identifying appropriate repositories for storage, facilitating the import of data, and managing the disposition of electronic media.

Records Management

  • Develop and manage the firm’s retention and disposition program.
  • Assist with file management related to storing client and business files, including creating, cataloging, maintaining, and dispositioning files within the records management system and assist with file circulation and offsite storage requests.
  • Audit firm-approved repositories for accuracy and compliance with firm policies.

Governance & Data Protection

  • Manage the process for tracking Outside Counsel Guidelines (OCG) in collaboration with the Director of Risk Management and Client Intake.
  • Assist the Chief Privacy Offer in completing privacy risk assessments for third-party vendors; evaluate and respond to data breach notifications.
  • Develop and manage the firm’s structured repositories.
  • Develop and manage the firm’s data loss prevention program in collaboration with IT.
  • Analyze client and administrative data types, determine the proper repositories, and maintain the security and ontology of current content systems in collaboration with other departments.
  • Assist in data mapping initiatives.
  • Assist in the execution of large-scale data remediation and strategic planning projects.
  • Assist in the implementation and maintenance of legal holds and ethical walls.
  • Other special projects and additional duties as assigned.

THE ESSENTIALS

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university; JD preferred; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Previous law firm experience preferred.
  • Records, information governance, or data privacy qualifications (CRM, IGP, CIPM) desirable.
  • Experience developing and implementing IG workflows, processes and procedures and functional expertise in project management.
  • Knowledge of data governance, data remediation, and data loss prevention practices.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work proactively with attorneys and staff at all levels across the firm.
  • Balance competing priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced environment, exercising patience and professionalism during stressful situations.
  • Highly organized, detail-orientated, proactive with a desire to take ownership as a contributing member of the team.
  • Must be able to lift and/or transport materials weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Some travel required (paid by firm).
