Duties

The Columbia VA Health Care System is a tertiary care teaching hospital providing the highest-level quality complex care with services ranging from cardio-thoracic and neurosurgery to primary and mental health care. We have a medical research program for approximately 91,000 Veterans across South Carolina. This health care system includes a full range of inpatient and outpatient care. Here at the VA, we don't treat patients, we serve our nations Veterans. Dorn VAMC is affiliated with the University of South Carolina (USC) School of Medicine and provides teaching services for students and residents. USC is the state's flagship research university with Schools of Medicine, Public Health, Nursing, Pharmacy, and an active Graduate School.

Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases
Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME)
Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA

Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory
CME: Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement (must be full-time with board certification)

Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Administrative oversight of the Columbia VA Health Care System Medicine Service.
  • Direct supervision of Hospitalist Section physicians and advanced practice providers at Columbia VA Health Care System
  • Initiation and oversight of inpatient quality improvement efforts at Columbia VA Health Care System
  • Direct management of inpatients admitted to the Columbia VA Health Care System
  • Clinical oversight of advanced practice providers
  • Night and weekend coverage of inpatient medical teams as needed in emergent situations


Work Schedule: Monday - Friday; 8:00am to 4:30pm (Subject to change based on agency needs).
