Koko Beenz, a boutique clothing designer and manufacturer is seeking experienced aΒ Seamstress/Tailor. The qualified candidate must be able to sew using patterns and be able to run a home sewing machine. The candidate must know how to press seams and products as well as have an understanding of the production process.Β 

Responsibilities
  • Altering clothing, taking measurements from and fitting garment to the customer to determine the type and extent of cutting required.Β 
  • Inserting or eliminating padding in shoulders and tapering seams without distorting the drape and proportions of the garment.
  • Repairing or replacing defective garment parts such as snaps, zippers, buttons, buckles, pockets, pocket flaps and coat linings.
  • Will be responsible for shortening or lengthening sleeves or legs, and must be able to re-sew garments using needle and thread or sewing machine.
  • fittings, sewing and alterations using all the necessary equipment such as a sewing machine, over lock machine, blind stitch machine, steam iron, scissors and rippers; and recording transactions.
  • Sews and matches out in a safe, dependable and timely manner that meets production and/or service needs.
  • Flatwork (Fabric and Leather), the ability to produce zippers, cushions and or Top/Saddle Stitch, and complete all sewing tasks in the department.
  • To produce or make adjustments to men’s and women’s suits, shirts, coats, blazers, dresses, and trousers. Included, but not limited to:
  • Taper sides of garments
  • Shorten/lengthen sleeves
  • Lower collars
  • Take in/out trousers waist
  • Take in/out seat and rise on pants
  • Shorten/lengthen trousers
  • Taper trouser thighs and foot widths
  • Ensure proper sizing of clients
  • Performs alterations on all garments submitted for alteration, presses finished garment, removes threads, and completes for client-ready
  • Seam and/or fabricate a variety of products using one or more types of sewing machines.
  • Inspect product for defects and handle appropriately, as required.
  • Ships product per customer order, as required.
  • Perform cutting duties as required.

Qualifications
  • A High School diploma or GED is preferred.
  • At least two (2) years of sewing or tailoring experience is required
  • Experience using a sewing machine, over lock machine, blind stitch machine, steam iron, scissors and seam ripper; Experience using a heat seal machine helpful
  • Strong working knowledge of garment construction in men's and women's apparel and ability to perform high-quality workmanship including hand and by machine
  • Strong interpersonal skills and good judgment with the ability to work alone or as part of a team
  • Able to perform multiple tasks efficiently with a strong organization of time and attention to detail
  • Must be able to read, write and speak English; required for the safe and effective performance of the job.
  • Must demonstrate high degree of seaming skills with the ability to learn many different machines and processes, producing high quality results.
  • Must be able to visually inspect garments for defects compared to established standards.

Physical Demands:
  • Potentially lifts items weighing up to 30 pounds independentlyΒ 
  • Must be able to stand, walk and sit for prolonged amounts of time
  • Uses arms, hands, and fingers for pulling and positioning materials, sewing, and using tools such as shears
