MSC Composites Paint & Finish Technician Job Description

Job Description: Materials Sciences LLC (MSC) is looking for a US citizen to become the organization's lead Composites Paint & Finish Technician. The role of Composites Paint & Finishes Technician is vital to the continued growth of Materials Sciences LLC and its service in the defense of the United States of America. This role will provide the team with finishes expertise for composite assemblies and well as secondary composites lamination support (will provide training) to balance out task work.
The Composites Paint & Finish Technician performs work in a dedicated production paint booth and directly on the composites manufacturing floor. Both areas necessitate the usage of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment). While it is desired for employees in this role to work with minimal supervision, they must also communicate effectively with other technicians to complete production objectives in a timely manner. Organizational skills and attention to detail are essential as the final manufactured components are high-performance, requiring skill and precision to correctly produce on-time and on-budget. Composites Paint & Finish Technicians are responsible for reporting their progress to a Composites Supervisor.
All Technicians, including the Composites Paint & Finish Technician, must be able to stand on their feet for several hours at a time and lift heavy objects up to 50 lbs on occasion. A high school diploma is a minimal educational requirement, and prior experience in manufacturing or a related field is highly beneficial. Industrial certifications are greatly respected.

- Exhibiting a zero-defect mentality as well as a "right-the-first-time" approach.
- Extreme discipline in following Manufacturing and Inspection Procedures (MIPs) and Work Orders, coupled with a willingness to support engineering in their improvement.

- Inspecting finished surfaces for defects, imperfections, foreign material (FOD) or other non-conformances, and correcting as necessary to specifications.
- Complying with established QMS (Quality Management System) procedures.
Specific Skills Include:
- Ability to interpret SDS (Safety Data Sheets), material supplier specifications, and MIL-specifications in order to enable premium paint and finishes application.
- Ability to thin to best, allowable paint and finishes viscosity that will achieve desired engineering result.

- Ability to color-match and blend paints and finishes to achieve engineering requirements.
- Highly efficient and accurate filling/fairing/sanding/cleaning of composite materials to proper dimensions based on MIPs, Work Orders and drawings prior to the addition of primers, paints, and final finishes.
- Highly efficient and accurate application of masking and stenciling methods. Ability to interpret engineering and/or customer drawings. Cradle-to-grave ordering and/or self-creation of custom stencils is a bonus skill that can be trained if not available.

- Ability to touch-up incidental manufacturing defects that occur during or after paint and finishes applications.
- Mentoring the Lamination Technician team towards providing completed composites products that requires minimal to no Finishes Technician re-work prior to paint and finish.
- Using basic math to calculate, weigh, mix and catalyze paints, finishes, and resins.

- Occasionally lifting 35lbs and infrequently lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Supports broader team in the design and fabrication of crates and specialized packaging that protect paints and finishes all the way through customer delivery.

Working Conditions:

- Will be exposed to normal manufacturing noise, sanding/fairing debris, hazardous chemicals, are standard industrial equipment that can pose personal danger if safety regulations are not followed.
- Must pass a respiratory physical in order to be certified for a half and full-face respirator PPE.
- Must have basic math and mechanical knowledge, manual dexterity, good eyesight and the ability to perform repetitive tasks.
- High School diploma.
- United States Citizen.
- Understanding of basic tools.
- Willingness to learn and execute supporting Lamination Technician skillsets (will train) to supplement the team when Paint & Finish task work is well under control.
- Highly desired but not mandatory: A two-year technical certificate, preferably in aerospace or automotive paints and finishes technologies that would lead to your fast and successful contribution to the MSC team.
