Description of Position

Β 

The Controller will be responsible for the accounting operations of Palmetto Sitework Services.Β  This includes the production of periodic financial reports, maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records, and a comprehensive set of controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk for the company.Β  Additionally, the Controller will analyze cost structures, provide financial insights, and contribute to strategic decision-making for the company.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

Β 

  • Responsible for the accounting operations of the company.
  • Provides financial reporting and analysis as required by President and / or Operations Manager.
  • Assists with development of project budgets.
  • Ensures accurate, systematic, and timely recording of all transactions.
  • Oversees activity of accounting staff, tax managers, and other positions.
  • Oversee employee training programs and identify developmental needs within the accounting team; ensure cross-training of critical capabilities.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of job cost data gathering procedures from field operations
  • Works with project management staff to ensure proper compliance with accounting procedures, including reviewing and analyzing job cost estimates periodically.
  • Prepares monthly and quarterly financial reports.
  • Assists with the development of company’s annual budget and financial planning; report significant budget differences to management
  • Works with outside accounting and financial firms.
  • Provides occasional assistance with weekly payroll process.
  • Continually seeks to enhance and implement more systematic and timely accounting processes.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Requirements of the Position

Β 

  • Education & Certification – Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Recommended Work Experience – A minimum of 7 years of cost accounting experience; CPA is strongly preferred but less important the greater the relevant accounting experience possessed; Experience in heavy civil construction industry, including road work and / or heavy equipment strongly preferred; Proficient with multiple accounting software packages required
  • Physical Demands – Prolonged sitting, standing, climbing, bending, lifting, keying, reaching, grasping, reading, speaking, and listening
  • Working Conditions – Work from designated space within Palmetto Sitework Services Corporate Office(s) required daily; Occasional, local, and regional travel to external meetings and functions and project sites as required; Potential work outside normal business hours
