JOB PURPOSE

Β 

The Controls Engineer is responsible for developing and testing hardware and software for existing and new equipment PLC’s, Servo systems, HMI’s, and supervisory level data acquisition.Β

  • Develop user requirement specifications for new equipment and processes for new capital projects.
  • Lead development and design of PLC based controls. Troubleshoot ladder logic and PLC communications problems.
  • PLC experience must include in depth knowledge of Β network based I/O systems such as DeviceNet for Allen Bradley control systems.
  • Requires high expertise in designing servo motion controls and troubleshooting servo based systems.
  • Provide high degree of expertise with PanelView and Wonderware based HMI’s.
  • Lead electrical design of the equipment, systems, and utilities.
  • Develop specifications for software and hardware.Β 
  • Prepare risk analysis of new control systems and supporting hardware/software design.
  • Experience in production facility process improvements and downtime reduction projects.
  • Installation of new manufacturing lines, new equipment and construction is a plus.
  • Good understanding of data acquisition and performance monitoring systems.
  • Good understanding of the manufacturing execution systems (MES) to provide connectivity between the process and controls layers.
  • Develop and manage project schedules, track costs, prepare status reports, conduct team meetings, and communicate progress to management.
  • Supervise and direct contract personnel and outside vendors in the performance of contracted services.
  • Prepare and present technical investigative reports to middle and senior level management.
  • Prepare capital requests..
  • Experience with Fanuc Robots and vision inspection systems to include teaching points, adjusting parameters, simple edits, etc.
  • All other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Β 

  • BS degree with 5 years experience in an engineering position or equivalent combination of education and controls engineer experience required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of ladder logic development for PLCs, Servo based motion control, Wonderware and ERP Systems. Experience with specification development for electronic hardware and PLC hardware including Allen-Bradley PLC’s Β and PanelView HMI’s.
  • Understanding of basic statistics and its application in Process Engineering.
  • Experienced in custom machine software specification development, validation, risk analysis, traceability analysis and development of equipment controls.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written commensurable with dealings at the middle and senior management level.
  • Experienced in estimating project costs and preparing justification for capital spending.
  • Ability to work with vendors to develop work schedules and tasks, and establish vendor and project priorities.
  • Ability to work independently, and as a project team member.
  • Ability to travel domestically and abroad.

WORKING CONDITIONS

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is subject to a typical office environment including heavy PC and phone usage.Β Work is also performed in a high-volume manufacturing environment; working with chemicals, working in or near a range while range is activeΒ and handling both manual and automated equipment and systems. Specific job assignments may require day, evening, weekend or holiday hours.

Team members are constantly standing, walking, carrying, twisting, bending, seeing, stooping, balancing, hearing, as well as handing paperwork and heavy PC computer usageΒ Team members will be lifting objects from floor to waist up to 50 pounds.
