Description

The Employment Specialist assists clients in employment-related matters. S/he provides aΒ 
range of employment/job development and employability case management services. TheΒ 
objective is to provide services that will lead clients to gainful employment, self-sufficiency andΒ 
independence. Parameters of service provision are spelled out in detail by our funders.Β 
Documentation demands are rigorous.

Essential Functions:Β 
1. Follow all Lutheran Services Carolinas policies and procedures.
2. Provide professional, confidential, culturally- and socio-economically-sensitive employment
services to clients. These services can include skills assessment, resume building, jobΒ 
development, interview coaching, networking with area employer and employmentΒ 
orientation.
3. Provide case management services that assist clients in obtaining gainful employment.
These services can include transportation and bus orientation to interviews, liaison withΒ 
interpreters, cultural orientation, and addressing other employment barriers such as healthΒ 
care, childcare, ESL and other services as identified.Β 
4. Document and report according to contractual requirements and in accordance with HIPAAΒ 
guidelines.
5. Prioritize tasks to guarantee proper case documentation and to ensure that the employmentΒ 
needs of our most vulnerable clients are addressed.
6. Build and maintain effective working relationships with clients, colleagues, employers, co-sponsors and volunteers, local agencies and organizations, and funders.
7. Design and conduct job development workshops as needed

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree or high school diploma (or equivalent) and two years experienceΒ 
in job development or related employment activities.

Experience: Cross-cultural

Specific skills/abilities: Good public relations and interpersonal skills. Proficient in reading,Β 
writing and speaking skills in the English language. Proficient with computers and MicrosoftΒ 
Office tools (Word, Excel, Powerpoint). Possess awareness and sensitivity to the serviceΒ 
population’s cultural and socio-economic characteristics is required. Effective in bridgingΒ 
between the client’s world and the employer’s. Have insight into human behavior andΒ 
motivations. Be Compassionate. Have discretion and flexibility. Be willing to comply withΒ 
rigorous documentation demands and have ability to calmly balance competing demands.Β 
Target languages--Dari, Pashto, Ukrainian, Russian, Arabic, Swahili, Spanishβ€”notΒ 
required but a bonus!

Specialized knowledge, licenses, etc: Valid NC or SC driver’s license
