Job Responsibilities

General Responsibility
Function as the Facilities Maintenance Manager of the State Law Enforcement Division (SLED). Under limited supervision of the Facilities Director incumbent will perform specialized trade/maintenance activities of Division facilities. Responsible for managing work requests and prioritizing these work requests. Coordinate custodial services for the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division as well as maintain specific areas designated to be security sensitive.

Specific Duties

  • Perform maintenance at all SLED facilities to ensure that all employees have a safe and secure working environment. Perform basic plumbing, electrical and advanced HVAC repairs.
  • Supervise outside vendors to ensure work is performed correctly and within budget.
  • Serve as back-up supervisor for custodial staff Β in all areas including security sensitive areas such as Headquarters, Forensic Services laboratory, Data Center, Tracking, Annex, to include managing and approving working hours etc.
  • Ensure that all required safety/preventive maintenance activities are performed properly and in a timely manner.
  • Assist in energy management of all Division facilities.
  • Assist Facilities Director in preparing an annual budget for the next fiscal year.
  • Act as the back up to the Senior Facilities Manager in his absence.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

  • Must have certifications/accredited training in HVAC, and refrigerant training/certification.
  • Must possess a high school diploma and five (5) years of professional experience in commercial property maintenance and construction.
  • Must possess journey level skills in electrical, plumbing, as well as advanced level skills and certifications in heating, ventilation and air conditioning maintenance.
  • Must possess basic computer skills including Microsoft office products and basic internet skills.
  • The ability to keep accurate written records.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to maintain accurate reports and prepare a budget estimate based on anticipated needs for equipment, materials, personnel and supplies.
  • Ability to multi task and prioritize between regular work orders and emergency work.
  • Ability to use the tools of the individual trades.
  • Ability to read blueprints and plan specifications.
  • Position may require work hours other than normal business operating hours and some weekends.
  • This position is located at SLED Headquarters campus (4400 Broad River Road) and requires travel to other SLED facilities.

Preferred Qualifications

Strong background in HVAC training and experience.
