Performs diagnostic sleep studies related to the evaluation and treatment of patients with sleep disorders.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
For West Virginia, Ohio, and Maryland locations:
1. Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) with 18 months Sleep Lab experience;ORRegistered Sleep Technologist (RST) with 2-5 years sleep lab experience;ORRegistered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) with 1-2 years of Respiratory Therapist experience;ORCertified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) with 1-2 years Respiratory Therapy experience2. Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date3. Designated registry as a Polysomnography Tech must be obtained within 30 months of hire as a Polysom Tech.
For Pennsylvania locations:
1. Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) with 18 months Sleep Lab experience;ORRegistered Sleep Technologist (RST) with 2-5 years sleep lab experience;ORRegistered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) with 1-2 years of Respiratory Therapist experience;ORCertified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) with 1-2 years Respiratory Therapy experience2. Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date3. Designated registry as a Polysomnography Tech.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
1. Associates Degree in an Allied Health Field, or Graduate of a Respiratory Therapy program.2. WV Respiratory License.3. RT’s with 1-2 years sleep lab experience4. Hospital patient care work experience
5. ACLS Certification within 90 days of hire


CORE JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The statements described here are intended to describe the general nature of work being performed by people assigned to this position. 1. Assures the completion of all patient testing procedures at the Sleep Center and in the hospital ensuring high-quality and efficient studies.2. Ensures proper documentation in the Tech Notes, acquisition equipment and patient chart.3. Performs sleep studies in accordance with the policy and procedure guidelines of the Sleep Evaluation Center, at the bedside and in critical care areas of the hospital.4. Prepares initial data for use by the physician in the formulation of sleep reports according to established department guidelines.5. Uses AIDET Communications Process (acknowledge, introduce, duration, explanation and thank you) and informs the patient and family regarding the nature and significance of the study performed.6. Accurately observes, records, and reports all patient concerns, symptoms, and reactions in a timely manner.7. Demonstrates the knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department policies and procedures8. Maintains orderliness and cleanliness of the equipment, procedure rooms and work areas of the Sleep Evaluation Center.9. Maintains CEU requirements and participates in department education and in-services.10. Assists in the instruction and hands-on technical training of trainees, house-staff, and medical staff both inside and outside of the institution.11. Participates in meeting the goals and objectives of the work unit and department by volunteering to assist co-workers, contributing ideas and problem solving with co-workers, as observed by supervision.12. Scores sleep studies according to American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) guidelines.
