Job Responsibilities

Perform services which assist with students' access to education at one or more of the Spartanburg Community College campuses between the hours of 8:00 am and 10:00 pm.

Β The majority of assignments are at the Giles (main) Campus and during daytime hours (8:00-12:30 pm), but some assignments may be in downtown Spartanburg, Duncan, Gaffney, or Union. Some assignments may be in the afternoon or evening. Each employee in this role will have differing assigned locations and hours based on the needs of the students. Potential candidates will be asked prior to hiring what campuses and hours they are available to work, and assigned locations and schedules will be determined based on the employee's availability. Possible work schedule may include daytime, afternoon, and/or evening assignments or substitute hours. For the first semester that a Support Service Provider is employed with SCC, they may have no more than 25 hours per week. Some employees can choose to have as few as 12 hours per week. For subsequent semesters, Support Service Providers can have no more than 29 hours per week on their schedule.

- Provide access to classroom instruction by taking notes and documenting important class information and announcements.
Β - Report to assigned classes at respective campuses to provide services. - Maintain a neutral support role while providing access to assigned classes and ensuring the student remains the primary participant.
- After the assigned class, report back to the Student Disability Services office (SDS) to turn in work and distribute it to the appropriate parties via scanning/copying/emailing.
- Provide auditory access of visual information, including text, image descriptions, information on the board/projector/handout/screen, and nonverbal communication, as needed (reader role).
- Write or type as directed by student, as needed (scribe role).
- Navigate materials and technology as directed by students, as needed (scribe role).
- Provide a transcript of videos when captioning tasks are assigned and submit them to SDS office.
- Communicate with SDS when other issues arise.
- Attend specific orientation and training as assigned.
- Perform other office duties, as needed, to provide access to students

Minimum and Additional Requirements

Candidate must be present and able to perform their job responsibilities in a punctual and reliable manner. Candidate must be able to communicate via email, text, and other group/individual messaging. Candidate must be able to operate a scanner/copier and must be proficient with computer use. Additionally, the candidate must have a minimum typing speed of 45 wpm, and be familiar with the Office Suite applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook, etc.). It is essential that the candidate be comfortable working with a diverse population of students, faculty, and staff while maintaining a professional demeanor.

Preferred Qualifications

Post-secondary education is preferred. Payrate is based on education and experience level.Β
