Job Responsibilities


Campus Safety Officers will lock and secure SCC buildings and classrooms and provide safety and security for the campus community and those visiting the University.

They will also work to prevent theft of or damage to equipment and the content of buildings and grounds.

In addition, Campus Safety Officers will deter disorderly conduct and unwanted intrusions to the college's property and serve as backup personnel for SCC Police Officers.


-Assignments may also include stationary post assignments to monitor doors, areas, and people.
-Ensures that exterior doors are locked according to schedule, controls access to facilities and performs regular safety checks of building and grounds.
-Unlocks doors for authorized personnel to enter the building as directed by an authorized SCC officials or supervisors.
-Patrols property checking for unusual conditions such as fires, prowlers, trespassers, vandalism, suspicious circumstances, and other unsafe conditions.
-Patrols and issues citations to illegally parked vehicles.
-Ensures those loading or unloading equipment or materials from the building have proper authorization.
-Responds to assist patrol officers as needed


Minimum and Additional Requirements


Minimum Qualifications:Β 
-High School diploma or GED Must be 21 years of age.
-Must possess a valid South Carolina driver’s license with a good driving record.
-A successful background check is required.
-The application must be completed including all current and previous work history and education.
-Employees in Safety-Sensitive or Security-Sensitive positions will be subject to pre-employment and post-employment drug testing


Preferred Qualifications


-Experience in a college environment is preferred. Excellent customer service skills; knowledge of the practices and techniques of safety, security and fire protection; the ability to act quickly and intelligently in emergency situations and adjust to fluctuating situations are essential. Candidates must also have the skills to investigate accidents, disturbances, and violations; deal courteously and firmly with the general public; have the ability to monitor and respond to audible/visual alarms, patrol on foot, respond to emergencies, and assist emergency personnel as needed, as well as work under extreme weather conditions.





As a non-sworn officer, these positions perform safety and security duties designed to protect State and personal property, as well as the rights of individuals against loss or injury due to disorderly acts, accidents, fires or other hazards. May perform office administrative duties and dispatching are essential.
