Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma required; college background preferred At least two years of study (60 semester hours) at an accredited institution of higher education; or An associate's degree (or higher); or An approved state or local academic assessment that measures the paraprofessional's knowledge of and ability to assist in instruction at the appropriate level. Paraprofessionals may meet the assessment requirement by passing theย ParaPro Assessmentย (ETS.org). The minimum passing score on this test is 456. One of the three options listed is required within six months of employment.

ย Outstanding verbal and written communication skills

ย Experience working with middle and high school students, especially ones with behavior challenges

ย Experience or background in counseling or similar field

ย Experience with de-escalation strategies preferred

ย Experience with proper restraint techniques preferred

ย Cooperative, able to work with guidance, administration, and other health-related staff members

ย Skill in interpersonal relations with pupils, parents, teachers, staff and the general public

ย Skill in using the computer

ย Outstanding references from current and former supervisors
