Description

Lancaster County Parks & Recreation Department seeks to fill a Facility Manager vacancy. This position performs professional work overseeing the day-to-day operations of a Recreation Center, focusing on community partnerships, sports camps, after-school, summer camps, and other recreational programs and activities for people of all ages. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Recreation Division Facility Supervisor. Supervision is exercised over staff, volunteers, and program participants.Β 

Examples of Duties

  • Plans, organizes, conducts, coordinates, and evaluates a wide variety of fitness, recreational, and community service programs.
  • Works with citizens and outside groups to schedule the use of the facility for rentals and special events.
  • Maintains relationships with neighborhood groups, schools, businesses, agencies, volunteers, and other community groups and provides necessary coordination of services.
  • Oversees rental and registration processes using registration software, ensures accurate record keeping for program receipts, assists with the collection of fees and charges, prepares bank deposits, and maintains financial and other reports.
  • Opens, closes, and secures facility.
  • Manages personnel including hiring, training, scheduling, coaching, evaluating, and disciplining staff including full-time and part-time employees. Β 
  • Recruits, interviews, trains, and supervises volunteers.
  • Works with contracted instructors, develops contractual agreements, request payment for instructors.
  • Inspects and ensures the cleanliness of the facility.
  • Performs monthly safety inspections, documents issues, and requests assistance with maintenance issues.
  • Prepares budget and monitors expenditures and revenues.
  • Assist with the marketing of programs and events.
  • Enforces all county and recreation center policies and procedures.
  • Inspects, inventories, and procures all necessary supplies and equipment.
  • Ensures that all work is performed in accordance with OSHA and County Safety Standards and Policies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Typical Qualifications

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in parks and recreation administration, early childhood education, physical education, or related field supplemented by one to two years of related recreation programming experience and employee recruitment and supervision, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.Β 
  • Supervision
    • One (1) year of supervisory experience and at least three (3) years of experience working in a public recreation facility.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed. Β Β 
  • Must have thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of recreation planning, programming, and operations.
  • Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with participants, co-workers, and the general public.
  • Must have experience with Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel, and Outlook, and possess the ability to learn new software.
  • Thorough understanding of local, state, and federal safety regulations and OSHA.
  • Valid South Carolina Driver’s License

  • Certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP certification)
