The HR Specialist performs a wide range of professional-level HR duties and works closely with Senior Vice President of Human Resources. This position is responsible for supporting key functional areas including benefits administration, employee relations, training, performance management, onboarding, policy implementation, recruitment, and compliance with employment laws and regulations.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Benefits Administration (10%)

Assist with the organization’s benefits programs, including health, COBRA, life insurance, flexible spending accounts, disability insurance, workers’ compensation, and retirement plans (401(k) and 457(b)). Provides guidance to employees regarding eligibility and options.Β 

  • Recruitment & Hiring (25%)

Manages all aspects of the recruitment process. This includes posting job openings, advertising through various channels, coordinating pre-employment testing and interviews, conducting background checks, and extending offers. Communicates salary and benefit details and facilitates both verbal and written offers.

  • Project Support (15%)

Completes departmental projects as assigned by management, including research, data collection, and analysis. Resolves internal and external inquiries and ensures timely follow-up.

  • Payroll Support (10%)

Prepares and reviews time and attendance records for semi-monthly payroll. Ensures accuracy of payroll data prior to submission. Serves as the backup for Payroll and HRIS processing and support.

  • Administrative Support (10%)

Orders HR department supplies monthly. Assists with employment documentation and supports use of the HRIS system. Participates in departmental and HR-related meetings and trainings.

  • Employee Records & Orientation Materials (10%)

Maintains up-to-date personnel files for active and terminated employees. Prepares and updates orientation materials for new hires.

  • New Hire Orientation (10%)

Conducts HR orientation sessions for new employees, covering benefits, policies, and procedures outlined in the Employee Handbook.

  • Job Description Management (5%)

Assists Senior Vice President of Human Resources in updating and maintaining employee job descriptions.

  • Compliance (5%)

Ensures compliance with federal and state employment laws including FMLA, ADA, HIPAA, and others.

  • Additional Duties

Performs other duties as assigned. Must adhere to all company policies and procedures and comply with applicable laws and regulations, including but not limited to the Bank Secrecy Act, the Patriot Act, and the Office of Foreign Assets Control


Requirements

Experience

Previous experience in Human Resources is required. Experience within a credit union or banking environment is preferred. A solid understanding of core HR functions is essential, with particular emphasis on employment law, payroll processing, and HRIS systems.

Education / Certification / Licenses

A degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred. An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may also be considered.
