Job Overview

The Machine Operator will mainly work with heavy machinery. This position requires a strong understanding of the machines, must be reliable and able to work with attention to detail and safety standards. This role ensures the interminable and efficient running of a smooth and efficient production workflow. In a fast-paced environment like production, this position is an integral part of the manufacturing process. Being a team player is essential since all tasks require close collaboration with co-workers.

The goal is to ensure production procedures are carried out smoothly to maximize efficiency and profits.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Sets up machines (calibration, cleaning etc.) to start and maintain production cycle efficiently; ensures output of machines meet high-quality standards
  • Control and adjust machine settings (e.g. speed) as needed
  • Feed raw material or parts to semi-automated machines
  • Inspect parts with precision and measuring tools
  • Test operation of machines periodically
  • Fix issues that occur during the shift
  • Check output to spot any machine-related mistakes or flaws; solve problems as detected
  • Maintain records of approved and defective units or final products; maintains activity logs
  • Adheres to strict health and safety guidelines as well as Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) and Company policies
  • Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to follow instructions from Team Lead
  • Understanding of industry standards and regulations in order to safely and efficiently operate high-speed machinery and tools properly
  • Adherence to health and safety regulations (e.g. constant use of PPE gear)
  • Ability to analyze situations and find solutions; strong attention to detail
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with ability to work and communicate well with others
  • Physical stamina and strength
  • Self-motivated with a results-driven approach

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be atleast 18 years of age
  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical degree is a plus
  • Aptitude for math, problem-solving, computers, and mechanics
  • Apprenticeship or specialization is an asset, but not necessary
  • 2+ years machine operator experience in a manufacturing environment recommended
