Job Description

Terms of Employment:

Twelve months/240 days; salary and work year established by the Board.

Job Summary:

York School District One seeks an instructional leader who believes in the unlimited potential of every child and is committed to creating a school where all students and staff feel seen, heard, and belong. The Elementary Principal provides decisive leadership grounded in strong instructional knowledge, effective management practices, and a commitment to collaboration, innovation, and community engagement. The ideal candidate demonstrates expertise in standards-based instruction, social-emotional learning, and data-informed decision making, and can translate vision into action by building systems, developing staff, and fostering a safe and high-performance learning environment.

Qualifications:

- Valid South Carolina certification as an Elementary Principal or eligibility for appropriate certification

- Master’s degree in Educational Administration or related field

- Minimum of five years of successful teaching experience and three years of school or district-level administrative experience

- Demonstrated success leading instructional improvement and staff development

- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills

- Experience fostering positive school culture and supporting diverse learners

- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may deem appropriate

Essential Duties:

  • Supports and upholds the mission, vision, and strategic priorities of York School District One.
  • Establishes a safe, supportive, and positive learning environment that promotes belonging and academic success.
  • Leads a results-oriented instructional program based on high-quality standards, curriculum, and assessments.
  • Uses data from multiple sources to monitor student learning, guide instructional decisions, and close achievement gaps.
  • Ensures implementation of effective PLC practices that support continuous improvement.
  • Recruits, hires, develops, and retains high-quality staff.
  • Provides meaningful feedback, coaching, and evaluation in accordance with state and district procedures.
  • Implements district policies, regulations, and Board directives.
  • Oversees daily school operations, building maintenance, technology, transportation coordination, and school safety procedures.
  • Ensures implementation and monitoring of emergency operations and crisis response plans.
  • Plans and monitors the school budget; manages federal, state, and grant funds appropriately.
  • Ensures compliance with accreditation requirements.
  • Builds strong relationships with students, families, staff, and community partners.
  • Communicates clearly, consistently, and professionally with all stakeholders.
  • Coordinates school activities with other schools and district programs.
  • Participates in professional learning, conferences, and district-required training.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

  • Effectively coordinate a variety of difficult, technical administrative functions at a level requiring extensive independent decision-making within established rules, policies, and proceduresΒ 
  • Must regularly lift and/or move objects up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 50 pounds.Β 
  • May experience constant interruptions, inflexible deadlines, and changes to normal routines.

Evaluation:

Performance will be evaluated annually according to the South Carolina PADEPP Evaluation System and applicable Board policies.
