Β Introduction/Job Purpose:

The Sanitary Survey Engineering Associate I will use application of engineering principles to a) ensure that all assigned public water systems are properly operated and maintained, b) inspect and monitor these facilities to ensure safe drinking water, and c) provide technical assistance in drinking water matters.

Job Duties:Β 

  • Independently performs sanitary surveys (drinking water plant inspections) on assigned public water systems.
  • Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of the State Safe Drinking Water Act and State Primary Drinking Water Regulations. Β Uses sound engineering judgment to make sure plants are properly operated and maintained.
  • Provide technical assistance to Department staff members, owners, water system operators, consulting engineers and the general public concerning drinking water issues. Β Provides assistance to regional offices as well as central office staff.
  • Participate in the Departments Area-Wide Optimization Program.
  • Review, evaluate, and approve engineering reports, plans, and specifications for surface water plant treatment modifications or upgrades.
  • Participate in drinking water emergency response activities as required.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

A bachelor’s degree in engineering. The education must qualify the applicant to become registered as a Level A Professional Engineer in South Carolina and must meet one of the education requirements outlined on the South Carolina Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulations website found at: https://llr.sc.gov/eng/PDF_Files/LicensureQualificationInformationSheetExam.pdf. If the applicant is utilizing the β€˜substantially equivalent education’ pathway, the approval letter from LLR must be final at time of application.Β 

Institutions of Higher Learning must be recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.
