JOB SUMMARYย
This position typically provides prosecution of serious criminal cases for Dorchester County, including trial preparation, plea agreements, hearings, court filings and jury trials; prepares necessary reports; and deals courteously and effectively with fellow employees and citizens.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONSย
Assess, negotiate, and resolve cases in the office.ย
Resolve cases in court. ย
Advises, trains, and discuss issues/solutions with other lawyers.ย
Correspond with law enforcement and opposing counsel.ย
Assist law enforcement as necessary.ย
Review and maintain case files and discovery.ย
Draft motions and legal filings.ย
Extend plea offers.ย
Prosecute General Session matters.ย
Education and Experience:ย
Juris Doctorate degree from an ABA accredited law school.ย
South Carolina Bar Admission and Certificationย
Seven (7) years of criminal law experience.ย
Special Qualifications:ย
Must have and maintain a valid driverโs license for South Carolina with a safe driving record.ย

Work is performedย dealing with crisis situations that require making major decisions involving people, resources, and property.ย

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position; typical work hours and daysย areย Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00ย p.m. ย Some flexibility in hours is allowed, but employees must be available during the โcoreโ work hours of 9:00 a.m. โ 4:00 p.m. and must work 40 hoursย each week toย maintainย full-time status.ย Employees must be available to work evenings, weekends and holidays during emergencies or asย requested.
