Systems Engineer II

The Department of Administration's Office of Technology and Information Services is the state’s central provider of IT services to state government agencies. As a Systems Engineer you will provide design, implementation, support and maintenance of servers (including the underlying vSphere infrastructure), enterprise storage and enterprise backup systems in the support of the Division of Technology Operations (DTO) internal and external customers. You will assist in analyzing technical reports/documentation and implementation procedures. Responsibilities of the Systems Engineer II:
  • Perform storage administration duties to include configuration, testing and installation of all Hitachi storage hardware and software.Β 
  • Perform system administration tasks for Windows servers and the underlying vSphere infrastructure.Β 
  • Manage system security, perform software updates, install operating systems, maintain hardware, systems tuning for optimum performance, and the validation of system patching/system security utilizing reporting tools.
  • Perform integration tasks to ensure server migrations to the DTO Data Center meet agency requirements.Β 
  • Ensure systems are inventoried, and monitored for data protection.
  • Perform enterprise backup administration duties to ensure all servers are protected by the enterprise backup system, data is replicated off-site, and restoration requests are satisfied.
  • Perform other duties as required. Due to the technical nature of this position, it is designated as an essential position

Minimum and Additional Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in computer science or information systems and six (6) years of experience in the support of Intel based enterprise servers with Microsoft and/or Red Hat Enterprise Linux as the operating system, and administrative abilities. Related experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis.
  • Extensive knowledge of VMware vSphere and virtualization technologies is required.Β 
  • Experience with management of enterprise class storage systems is required. Β 

Additional Requirements:
  • Employee must have extensive and administrative skills/knowledge of Windows and/or Red Hat Enterprise Linux operating systems.Β 
  • Extensive knowledge with enterprise storage, backup and recovery technology with the ability to design storage, backup and recovery scenarios to provide sufficient data protection and business continuity is necessary.Β 
  • Good written and oral communication skills, as well as sound interpersonal skills are necessary to work within a large, complex implementation team and among diverse stakeholders.Β 
  • Ability to provide direction and guidance to staff in the support of said products.Β 
  • A sound knowledge of servers, operating systems, enterprise storage, networking, virtualization, and backup/recovery is required.Β 
  • Compliance certification and trainings are to be obtained and kept current.

Preferred Qualifications

RHEL and MS certifications are beneficial but not mandated.
