The role:Β As a Grounds and Maintenance Associate at SSC, you responsible for performing routine building, amenity, infrastructure, and grounds maintenance tasks, general cleaning, and other tasks as determined by the General Manager (GM) and/or assigned Grounds and Maintenance Manager (GMM.) The main function of this role is to ensure that all facilities run smoothly and safely throughout the camping season and that all grounds present impeccably.Β The person who fills this role will work closely with the GM, maintenance, grounds, front desk, and housekeeping crew, and other team members. This position, like all at SSC, is customer-facing, and maintains a pleasant, welcoming, hospitable attitude when onsite serving guests.Β This role offers the opportunity to be part of a dynamic team and contribute to the success of the campground.Β

Responsibilities:

  • Safely operate necessary groundskeeping and heavy equipment such as mowers, tractors, chainsaws and other machines Β 
  • Ensure grounds are maintained and kept clean at all timesΒ 
  • Clean buildings and common areas throughout the parkΒ 
  • Perform electrical, carpentry and plumbing work as neededΒ 
  • Perform collection and cleanupΒ 
  • Execute honey-wagon (vacuum truck) duties when and where necessary, on a scheduled basisΒ 
  • Provide guest support when neededΒ 
  • Other duties as assignedΒ 
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose issues to determine the most effective repair or replacement solutions.Β 
  • Maintain an organized inventory of maintenance supplies, tools, and equipment.Β 
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations, environmental standards, and relevant codes.Β 
  • Engage in special projects and initiatives to improve campground operations and guest experiences.Β 

Qualifications:

  • 2+ years’ experience in grounds, facility and site maintenance or the equivalentΒ 
  • Past campground/mobile home community/property maintenance experience and/or knowledge of the camping lifestyle preferredΒ 
  • Ability to understand and implement safety regulations and proceduresΒ and environmental standards
  • Ability to lift 50 or more poundsΒ 
  • Ability to safely drive trucks, tractors and other motorized vehiclesΒ 
  • Valid driver’s licenseΒ 
  • Strong technical knowledge of building maintenance, landscaping, utilities and equipment repairΒ 
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilitiesΒ 
  • Strong organizational skills and meticulous attention to detailΒ 
  • Prioritization and time management skillsΒ 
  • Ability to work weekends, holidays, and varying shifts as needed.Β 
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, multi-stimuli, guest-focused environmentΒ 
  • Reliable transportationΒ 

Education/Experience:

  • Must have high school diploma or equivalentΒ 
  • 1+ years customer service experience and exceptional customer service skillsΒ 
  • Previous work experience which included safety processes and proceduresΒ 
  • Experience and knowledge of some combination of electrical, plumbing, carpentry, small engine repair, groundskeepingΒ 
  • A team player who is willing to assist others when neededΒ 
  • The desire to continue learning new skillsΒ

The Grounds and Maintenance Associate works in every area of the campground. Β  This could mean working outside in hot, cold, wet, windy, humid conditions and includes a lot of walking/driving from one end of the campground to another. Β It may also include working inside for extended periods of time. Β

This position is one where the incumbent is required to sit, stand and walk for extended periods of time on a regular basis. Β The incumbent will also perform a variety of repetitive tasks, including cleaning each site when campers check out and assisting with minor repairs. Β  It also includes carrying and using a variety of tools, along with bending, stretching, reaching and lifting at least 50 pounds.Β
