Position Description:

Carpenter's Helper performs a variety of tasks at all kinds of construction sites. The role is similar to an apprenticeship. You are expected to learn the skills of a carpenter. Carpenter's Helpers play indispensable roles in the construction industry. Carpentry covers a wide range of construction services including cutting, shaping, installing materials, and erecting framework for buildings and other structures.Β 


Qualifications/Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalentΒ 
  • Basic math skills. Read and understand plans.
  • Physically active.
  • Good listening skills – the ability communicate with coworkers
  • A good team player, self-confident, motivated, and independent.Β 
  • Candidates mustΒ possessΒ a strong work ethic.
  • Basic hand tools are required, such as: Tool belt, hammer, speed square, tape measure, rebar tie tool, pliers, etc.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Measure materials or distances, using square, measuring tape, or rule to lay out work.
  • Study blueprints and diagrams to determine dimensions of structure or form to be constructed.
  • Cut or saw boards, timbers, or plywood to required size, using handsaw, power saw, or woodworking machine with supervision.
  • Install handrails under supervision.
  • Install fixtures (partitions and toilet accessories)
  • Assemble and fasten material together to construct wood or metal framework of structure, using bolts, nails, or screws.
  • Smooth or sand surfaces to removes ridges, tool marks, glue or caulkingΒ 
  • Secure stakes to grids for constructions of footings, nails scabs to footing forms, and vibrate and float concrete.
  • Assist in finishing concrete surfaces.
  • Inspect work sites to determine condition or necessary repairs.
  • Dig or direct digging of post holes and set poles to support structures.
  • Assist in placing and setting slabs and sidewalks
  • Assist in framing wood, metal studs and blocking.
  • Tie rebar, wire mat and poly.
  • Assist install of wood base, knox boxes
  • Fire caulk, and other caulk
  • Install erosion control
  • Edge concrete
  • Estimate height, width, length, and other proportions..
  • Build & install guard rails and shoring under direction of a carpenter.
  • Demo and repair existing structures
  • Saw cut expansion joints
  • Bore bolt holes in timber, masonry or concrete walls, using power drills
  • Bondo
  • Basic hand tools required, such as: tool belt, hammer, speed square, tape measure, rebar tie, pliers, etc.
  • Performs other related duties as needed

    Physical Requirements:

    • This is a full-time, hourly position. Typical days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. as well as, evening and weekend work that may be required as job duties demand.Β 
    • Prolonged periods ofΒ walking job site. Must be able toΒ stand, walk,Β sit,Β reach, climb, squat,Β kneel andΒ bend.Β Β 
    • Occupation requires physical activity most of the day.Β 
    • Must be able to lift 50 pounds at times.
    • Able to travel as needed and able to visit multiple job sites if needed.Β 
    • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions; extreme cold and extreme heat. The employee is occasionally exposed to chemicals, risk of electrical shock and risk of vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.Β
