Job Responsibilities

This position is located at the SC Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) - Office of Mental Health, Coastal Empire Community Mental Health Center, 1510 Gray’s Highway, Ridgeland, SC 29936.

The Office of Mental Health’s mission to support the recovery of people with mental illnesses. Β We provide a complete array of medical and support services for children, adults, and families throughout South Carolina.

Under general supervision of the Chief of Clinical Services, plans, implements, coordinates and supervises the daily operations and delivery of Adult Services and Children, Adolescent and Family services, both clinical and administrative, in the Jasper County Clinic.

As the Jasper Clinic Director,Β you will:

  • Supervise the daily administrative and clinical operations of the Jasper County Clinic. Assure available patient services are provided and billed appropriately. Identify areas of process improvement, including specialized reports and patient access that result in the improvement of services provided for Adult as well as Children, Adolescent, and Family programs in the service area. Coordinate with Coordinator of Children, Adolescent and Family services as needed in relation to oversight and delivery of Children, Adolescent, and Family services in the clinic and school-based services. Deliver direct patient care.
  • Recruit and supervises all personnel, either directly or indirectly in the Jasper County Clinic. Β Ensure that all expectations are met by staff in the Jasper Clinic. Β Provide yearly evaluations and regular supervision to all clinic staff. Provide and document clinical supervision regularly with all supervisees. Β 
  • Communicate regularly with representatives of public and private mental health, medical, and social services organizations and other partners, i.e. schools, Law Enforcement agencies in order to assure the delivery of quality services to our mutual patients. Participate in opportunities to meet with both professionals and members of the general public in order to share pertinent information about Coastal Empire Community Mental Health Center and the services offered.
  • Assure clinical services are provided and billed appropriately. Assure provided services adhere to Quality Assurance standards.
  • Ensure continuity of care within clinic programs, between community programs, and with hospitals as specified in the DMH Continuity of Care Manual.Β 
  • Ensure the clinic is in conformance with SCDMH Corporate Compliance requirements and guidelines.

This position MAY be eligible for SCOMH Student Loan Repayment to cover some of the cost of your outstanding loan(s) balance associated with the completion of a healthcare degree that is relevant to the appliable position.

Coastal Empire CMHC is an approved site of the National Health Service Corps (NHSC), which offers student loan repayment of up to $50,000.00 to employees of NHSC- approved sites. You must be a US Citizen, you must be licensed to practice independently in the state where you are hired and you must have unpaid government or commercial school loans. There is a two year service commitment required as well. Β Confirmation of qualifying for this loan repayment program is the responsibility of every applicant - we cannot guarantee your qualification.Β 

Minimum and Additional Requirements

  • A master's degree in social science and two years of social service program experience; (4 years preferred), 1 year of which must have been in a community mental health program.
Additional Requirements
  • The ability to travel as needed/appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

  • LPC or LPC-S Licensure.
  • 2 years of experience in a clinical settingΒ 
  • Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus.

    • Be able to complete Managing Agitation in the Psychiatric Setting (MAPS) certification.
    • Have thorough knowledge of principles and practices of mental social treatment services for the mentally ill.
    • Have knowledge of administrative practice procedures, rules, regulations, policies and standards.
    • Have the ability to plan, develop and direct local programs for mental health care and operation of the clinic.Β 
    • Have the ability to supervise mental health professionals and non-professional staff.
