Cutter Operator

The Cutter Operator is responsible for set-up, operating, or tending machines that cut or slice fabric.  This person will handle and move objects, and inspect materials, structures, and equipment ensuring a safe work environment for themselves and their coworkers. 

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

• Monitor and adjust cutters for quality, throughput, and runability.  Must use Mix Setup Sheet to obtain grade-specific requirements for quality and throughput.  Communicate with cutter crew grade-specific issues. 
• Detect and report any quality variance in raw materials or questionable conditions to the production lead operator. 
• Maintains the work area and equipment in a clean orderly condition including magnets, metal detectors, and particle traps, and follows prescribed safety regulations. 
• Performs prescribed preventative maintenance on machines, including belt tracking and routine lubrication. 
• Properly change and set blades on cutters to ensure quality throughput and avoid costly breakdowns. 
• Make cutter repairs including know removal, cutter head replacement, bed knife support replacement, feed apron replacement, conveyor belt replacement, bearing replacement, etc. as listed in the instruction manual job method for cutter operator. 
• Response to fires in a timely manner. 
• Operate lift truck to supply feeding system with raw materials as needed.
• Change lift truck battery as needed. 
• Assist cutter crew to ensure proper throughput.  Monitor blender level.

Physical Job Demands

• This position must be able to meet the demands of the Press Operator 
• Regularly required to lift a 6-lb jig with multiple extensions to a height of 72” while guiding the extensions into slots at the top of the press foot. Must be able to reach/apply packaging at an 80” height.  
  • Note: The task is performed every 4 – 7 minutes.
• Regularly required to stand, reach, and move about the facility. 
• Pulling/pushing of press doors during bale removal. 
• Connecting of ropes around finished material bales. 
• Climbing on or off the lift truck, steps to the catwalk, and ladders.
