This employee will be responsible for assisting in habitat development work within Unit 4-C (Donnelley, Botany Bay and Edisto River WMA).Β
Job Duties Include:Β
Assisting with habitat management activities including agricultural plantings, prescribed burning and mowing.Β
Assisting with the implementation of public hunting on public hunting lands. Β
Providing assistance to WMA hunt participants and collecting necessary biological data as directed.Β
Assisting with construction and installation of water control structures, bulkheads, grade stabilization structures, etc.Β
Assisting with wetland habitat management activities such as burning and water level management.Β
Performing maintenance on grounds including mowing dikes, grounds, roads and open areas.Β
Preparing and maintaining records and reports as required.Β
Performing maintenance of physical structures including painting and minor repairs to gates, buildings and other structures as needed.Β
Assisting with construction and maintenance of signage for Unit 4-C.Β
Maintaining department issued equipment.Β
Assisting with the collection of data including dove banding, waterfowl banding, and surveys.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
A high school diploma and two (2) years of related experience in wildlife, fisheries or agricultural work; or an associate degree in the technical sciences.
Preferred Qualifications
Some knowledge of wildlife management techniques. Β Ability to operate and repair heavy equipment, tractors, farm implements, power and hand tools. Β Ability to conduct public hunts. Β Ability to work independently to perform strenuous tasks. Β Ability to get along and communicate with fellow employees and the general public. Β Ability to perform limited facilities maintenance. Β Ability to perform agricultural activities such as disking, mowing, planting, and herbicide application. Β Ability to assist with control burns.Β
