GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The purpose of this position is to monitor and screen all waste and recyclable materials delivered by residents to County Recycle Centers. This position assists the public in placing materials in proper containers, monitors container volume, and maintains site appearance and safety. Duties include opening and closing the facility, assisting drivers with container changes, sorting recyclables, removing contaminants, monitoring waste disposal, and directing residents to appropriate containers. They also handle minor maintenance tasks and assist handicapped individuals with waste disposal. This role requires independent work with minimal supervision, ensuring the center operates efficiently and meets community needs. This position works under the supervision of the Recycle Center Crew Leader and the Solid Waste Director.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Ability to perform semi-routine work following procedures with occasional problems.
Ability to use basic addition and subtraction.
Ability to read simple sentences, instructions, or work orders.
Ability to write simple sentences and complete simple job forms.
Ability to speak simple sentences using basic grammar.Β Β
Ability to perform simple and repetitive manual, clerical, or operating tasks, following a few definite procedures.
Ability to perform minor short-term planning, with attention to detail, for accurate results.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma or equivalent; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS:
Required: Valid state driverβs license
Preferred: None.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The work is very heavy work which requires exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.Β
This position has the following special vision requirements: close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less); distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more); color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors); peripheral vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen up or down and to the left and right when vision is fixed on a given point); depth perception (three-dimensional vision, ability to judge distances and spatial relationships); adjust focus (ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus).
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed in a demanding indoor and/or outdoor work environment; may encounter noise, weather, extreme temperatures, moisture, humidity, dust, odors, fumes, gases, vibration, mechanical hazards, chemical hazards, burn hazards, moving mechanical parts, or working in high places. In the performance of their duties, employees may be required to use personal protective equipment such as face masks, goggles, boots, gloves, or eye shields.
