Timely and accurately assess, plan, and deliver nursing care to patientsÂ
Contact practitioner to obtain ordersÂ
Administer prescribed medication, treatments and other tasks as ordered by the practitionerÂ
Provide emergency first aid care, when appropriateÂ
Check and record vital signs, peak flows, blood glucose checks, weight, and other diagnostic tests on-site, when appropriateÂ
Triage officer intake screenings for necessity and priority at sick callÂ
Collect and record data for statistical reporting on the CQIÂ
Record information in chronic clinic and outcome study documents as indicatedÂ
Report reactions to treatments and medications, as well as changes in the patients’ emotional or physical conditionÂ
Provide patient education on topics such as correctional facility’s policies and discharge planningÂ
Record care information concisely, accurately, and completely, in a timely manner, in the appropriate format and on the appropriate formsÂ
Collaborate and coordinate multiple medical services for diagnosis and treatment, as directed by the practitionerÂ
Maintain aseptic techniques and infection control precautions as requiredÂ
Maintain and demonstrate working knowledge of pharmacology, including drug reaction/overdoseÂ
Maintain and demonstrate working knowledge of therapeutic diets and nutritionÂ
Maintain and demonstrate working knowledge of social and behavioral sciences, particularly as applied to the correctional institutional settingÂ
Recommend improved procedures, equipment, and supplies to your supervisorÂ
Notify supervisor of medical or security incidentsÂ
Present/participate in in-service education sessionsÂ
Perform duties within the scope of practice mandated by state and local standardsÂ
Maintain patient confidentiality and HIPAA practices as required by government agenciesÂ
Oversee and delegate duties as expected and allowed under the RN scope of practiceÂ
May be directed to cover shifts at multiple correctional facilitiesÂ
May be asked to act as a back-up to the H.S.A/Site ManagerÂ
May be asked to train new hires and coworkersÂ
Any and all other duties as assignedÂ
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:Â
Active nursing license in the state in which services are to be provided, in good standingÂ
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; hands-on trainingÂ
Excellent documentation skillsÂ
Knowledge of the RN scope of practiceÂ
